The new record enrollment, which is expected to increase even more by the time classes start on Monday, surpasses the previous high of 8,202 in 1992.
Edinboro University, northwest Pennsylvania’s largest and most comprehensive institution of higher education, also saw one of the largest application pools in the last 20 years and experienced an unprecedented pool of transfer applications.
“Our popularity has grown dramatically, and these student numbers are a testament to the value placed on an Edinboro degree,” said University President Jeremy D. Brown.
This semester, 6,458 undergraduate and transfer students currently are enrolled at Edinboro. “Students and their parents know they will receive a quality education at a fraction of the cost of private and even state-related institutions by coming to Edinboro,” said Brown. “Whilst we are growing in numbers, we are also growing in the quality of our students. Over 71 percent of our incoming freshmen have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher. Of this group, 40 percent has a high school GPA of 3.5.”
Graduate school enrollment, which has increased significantly over the past few years, continues to grow. Graduate enrollment is currently at 1,755. Additionally, Edinboro is projecting more than 1,000 online students, which is a 40 percent increase compared to last year.
“We have broken graduate acceptance records and are charting new territory in online acceptances,” Brown said.
Edinboro was recently ranked by U.S. News & World Report magazine as a “great school” with “great prices” for the second consecutive year. The University was ranked fourth in the North region among universities offering undergraduate and master’s degree programs for students who graduated with the least amount of debt. In May, Edinboro’s online Master of Education programs were recognized by U.S. News & World Report for being among the nation’s largest. The University is also ranked by Animation Magazine as one of the top 15 animation programs in the nation.
