Summer Party 09

Date of Event:
July 17, 2009 - July 19, 2009
It’s that time again – SUMMER PARTY!!   Attached please find a copy of:  (i) the Tentative Schedule of Events, (ii) directions to the Picnic and (iii) an Agenda for the Alumni Meeting.

We’ll be enjoying the company of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at this weekend’s events.  Also, thanks to Brothers Kareem Knowell and Joe Brown – we’ve learned that the PONTOON Boats are once again being rented.  Thus, assuming we are not blacklisted from rental, we are planning to rent between 2 or 3 boats following the softball game.  Doug has also gone through the trouble of reserving the Peninsula Park Pavilion for Saturday’s picnic.  Should be plenty of fun – you won’t want to miss it!

I would like to thank Kelly Frye and his design company (find Ten 29 Design at http://www.t29d.com ) for creating some wonderful T-shirts for this years’ party.  I’ve attached a .jpg of the graphic for those.  Very cool!

The cost of Summer Party will be $25 for Alumni ($30 with T-shirt) and $10 for Actives ($20 with T-shirt).  Remember, this is our biggest fundraiser for the year, so all contributions are most greatly appreciated.

Chapter Update

Believe it or not, the Active chapter is still in good standing with IHQ and has no outstanding debt.  Although we had great difficulty communicating with the chapter during Eric Porth’s term, things dramatically improved in Spring semester when the current acting President, Alex Robertson, took the helm.  Alex is a fine President and I look forward to the many contributions he is sure to make.

Scholarship Update

Although the Actives are financially sound, the Alumni contributed over $1000 to assist in that achievement (it is worth noting that Eric Porth’s deliberate absence from last summers’ CLC cost the Active chapter exactly $1000 in penalties).  This contribution, coupled with the economy’s impact on our ’08-’09 fundraising efforts, has postponed our funding capabilities for the Legacy Leadership Scholarships I proposed last summer.  As you may recall, these scholarships would be fully tax deductible contributions to active brothers who show promise as future leaders of our fraternity.  Since the cost of receiving I.R.S. approval for this entity is significant ($500-$750), however, we have elected to table the establishment until a more robust bank account can warrant pursuit.

Elections

This is an election year for the Alumni Corporation. As such, if anyone is interested in running for a position, please contact Doug Sestock in advance of the meeting so we can slate your name.  Assuming the members agree, Doug and I have agreed to swap officer positions for the next two years.

See you soon!

I recently learned that my work schedule will prevent me from attending this years’ Summer Party (my first miss in a decade); but I’m sure everyone will have a wonderful time!  I hope to see you all at Homecoming this year.  Take care!
