Edinboro University to break ground on Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Center
It will be the region's largest, free-standing, air-supported domed structure of its kind.
More importantly, it will allow Edinboro athletes to train no matter the outside temperature or amount of snow, sleet or ice in the air or on the ground!
Edinboro University of Pennsylvania will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Center, Saturday, August 16, at 10:30 a.m. The new domed facility will be located just north of McComb Fieldhouse on the Edinboro campus.
The 85,000 square-foot structure will be covered by an air-supported dome, making it the largest such facility in northwestern Pennsylvania. Expected to participate in the ceremony are Mr. Zafirovski, who graduated from Edinboro University in 1975 and is currently the CEO of Nortel; Edinboro President Jeremy D. Brown; Edinboro Athletic Director Bruce Baumgartner; and Edinboro student-athlete Rachel Lanzel.
Zafirovski is a long-time supporter of the University and a major contributor whose generosity is making the long-needed new facility a reality. He captained the swimming team and the men's soccer team while lettering seven times at Edinboro.
Mr. Zafirovski, President Brown and all participants will be available for media interview and photo ops before and after the groundbreaking ceremony.
